The easiest skill to learn is sensing the energies surrounding people. An aura can be perceived as pleasant, warm, repulsive, hard, gray, dense, hollow, prickly, or sticky. When observing an aura, one can see that it contains energies of various colors, depending on the individual’s emotional state. However, the core energies stem from the initiations and burdens one carries, and they often remain constant throughout most of a person’s life—unless that person actively engages in self-improvement. It is helpful to give names to these energies: for instance, someone might have a white halo (milky white, cold white, gray, black, dark, bright, or transparent). Next, one should determine their energetic weight—for every type of person and soul possesses its own distinct energetic weight.
Observe, and ask yourself these questions: „What kind of energies does this person possess?” „What kind of energy radiates from them?” Do not strain your eyes; instead, try to sense it, attune yourself to it, and simply feel it. After some time, you will easily be able to distinguish dark energies from white ones, white from bright, pleasant from sweet, heavy from cold, and gray from colorful.
Exercise 1: Read A.E. Powell’s book, The Etheric Double.
Exercise 2: Stand more than a meter away from some flowers (or buds) and extend your hands in front of you. Slowly move closer to them, step by step, until you begin to feel a tingling (or pricking) sensation in your hands. In this way, you are bringing your aura into contact with the energy of the flowers. If you feel nothing, proceed to the next exercises.
Exercise 3: Place your left hand on a desk or your lap, palm facing upward, with your fingers held together. Using the fingers of your right hand, begin tapping the surface of your left palm, moving from the wrist to the fingertips and back again. Let each tap last for approximately one second. Focus on the sensations you feel and try to memorize them. Continue tapping for about fifteen seconds, until you are able to recreate the sensation of touch using your awareness alone. Stop the physical tapping and immediately continue the process in the realm of your imagination. Move the memory of the tapping sensations from your wrist to your fingertips and back again. Perform this for at least one minute, until you feel fully immersed in the experience. Try performing this exercise with your eyes open while looking at your hands. Next, repeat the imaginary tapping with your eyes closed. You will begin to experience unusual sensations—such as tightness, heaviness, tension, or tingling. Repeat the exercise using your right hand. In a more advanced variation, you may visualize „brushing” the entire line extending from your wrist to your fingertips. The goal is to gain a sense of your own energetic (etheric) body.
Exercise 4: Colors. Close your eyes and visualize a color you like. Feel it; allow it to fill your body. Next, imagine that this color permeates your aura, expanding and strengthening it. This is not a positive-thinking meditation; it is an experience of energy. How do you feel? Does the color change? Repeat this process with each of the primary colors: red, blue, yellow, green, and violet. Note down your observations.
Exercise 5: Animal Observation. Go to a park or a zoo and observe the animals. Do not attempt to analyze them; simply observe their auras—their energy. Do you perceive sadness, joy, aggression, or tranquility within them? Try to sense their emotions—their state of being. Try to take this exercise a step further: What kind of soul do you perceive within the creature before you?
Exercise 6: The Energy of a Place: Choose a location that you perceive as being energetically burdened (e.g., the site of an accident, a hospital, an old factory, a demolished house, or an empty house). Stand there and sense what surrounds you. Do not judge; simply register your sensations. Next, visualize yourself gathering these energies and casting them into a fire—a fire that transforms everything. The goal here is not to fix the past, but rather to retransform the energy.
Exercise 7: Clearing: Choose a person with whom you share a complicated relationship. Visualize that, within their aura, you can see all the negative emotions you have directed toward them. Say aloud: „I take them back.” Then—once again—visualize water into which they flow, followed by a fire that transforms them. As you do this, try to explore: What are these energies? Why did they take on this particular form, shape, or thought?
A Brief Summary
When working with energies, we never force anything. If you experience discomfort, stop and shift your focus to a different part of your body—for instance, a foot, knee, thigh, or forearm. Our energetic body exists in varying states of health; a sedentary lifestyle and an unhealthy diet can embed gray, heavy energies within our subtle bodies. The channels within the subtle bodies may become clogged with energies resembling sludge, concrete, cotton wool, or metallic lumps. The movements demonstrated in Exercise 3 are designed to dislodge these blockages and dissolve them. It is important to remember that our thoughts (the mental body) influence our emotions (the astral body), thereby shaping our sensitivity to energies.
It is worth distinguishing between working with the subtle bodies (primarily the etheric body) and the practice of working with and cleansing the chakras. Sometimes, a chakra may close due to trauma or as a protective mechanism. Touch the chakra with your hand—or gently scratch the area where it is located—and ask: „What happened here?” or „What am I holding onto here?” Then, visualize yourself opening and activating it.
The positive outcomes of this training include increased energy levels, a sense of rejuvenation, and the awakening of new senses. Suddenly, in the middle of a conversation, you may feel a distinct „insertion” into a specific part of your body. Did you feel a sharp twinge in your stomach, or perhaps a sensation of pressure on your forehead? You know that an energetic interaction—or karma—has just impacted you. Regardless of your awareness, energy is flowing and an interaction is taking place—and this marks the first step in the process of awakening.
